Wow, another month has gone past and we are still facing the uncertainty of Covid. We are receiving support from Taupo District Council around levels and expectations and we will try to keep you all updated around what events we can and can’t host. This is a disappointment for ourselves as a committee, as well as the loyal homeowners and holiday makers that visit and support us during our busy Xmas season.
OKRA - Raewyn attended the most recent OKRA meeting and was able to give the committee an overview of the meeting and discussed how the two committees could work together in the future while still maintaining their own identities. Mah Jong - Is taking place again at the hall on Mondays & Fridays. We are very excited to have this back in action again. Fishing Comp - We are excited to be able to host this event in the current Covid level and hopefully this should be easier if levels drop/alter. Sponsors are currently being contacted. So far we have a wide range of prizes donated and are looking forward to this event. Possible redecoration of the Hall - The committee has moved that we investigate the feasibility and cost of painting the Autex in the hall. Currently this is red and a few hirees of the hall have commented that it would be more suitable if this was a neutral colour. Upcoming events - AGM - Monday 6th Dec 5.30pm at the Hall. We are looking for further committee members so if you would like to join our small committee and bring ideas to life, please contact us. Our meetings are held monthly and we try to keep it to 1hour! We are a supportive group who love new ideas while retaining the history of the hall and surrounding area. Due to covid restrictions we are unable to host Carols or the Fun Run. We are looking at playing Carols from the hall on Xmas eve for you all to enjoy as you walk/run/play past the hall. Unfortunately the Fun Run comes under marathon restrictions and so at this stage (24th Nov) we are unable to hold anything - but we will certainly be pushing to bring this back in 2022! Fishing Competition - January 1&2, 2022. The fishing competition this year will be open for online entries for the first time and will also have a virtual prize giving in keeping with COVID guidelines. Registrations online will open from Monday 27th - Thursday 30th with physical registrations (with physical distancing and mask wearing) open on Friday 31st from 2pm till 4pm. Please keep an eye on facebook and web site for further details.

COVID has once again caused us to postpone events this month, which although disappointing, is unavoidable currently. The committee is still working hard behind the scenes to ensure a spectacular summer program, with more details to come next month.
It is with great sadness that we advise all of the passing of Pieter Braun. Pieter was the current chairman for the Omori Kuratau Ratepayers Association and also a former chairman for the Omori Kuratau Charitable Trust. Our thoughts are with Cathie and family at this time. We will host a memorial service, at the hall, for Pieter when we return to Alert Level 1. Solar Panel Quote - Following the quote received last month the committee has decided to seek the advice of Civil Defence to establish what is needed. Electronic Noticeboard - The hall is currently looking to replace our noticeboard with an electronic version, however we are currently struggling to find a suitable solution. Does anyone have any contacts or thoughts around this? Summer Program - The dates for the summer program (for your diary are) - Carols Friday 24th December, Colour Fun Run Wednesday 29th December Annual Fishing competition to be held Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd January with registration on Friday 31st December. Upcoming events - Quiz Night - Postponed until Level 1, new date TBC. Labour Weekend Market - Postponed with a tentative alternate date to be held Saturday 5th February. Bowls has now finished for the year, many thanks to Ian and Denise Giles for their input, while MahJong (Ngaire Grainger) and Craft (Chris Wells) have decided to hold off on their weekly gatherings until Level 1. The hall is still available for bookings, however these must comply with the current COVID restrictions. Stay safe and we look forward to further events once our Covid Levels change Although our plans have changed slightly since the August meeting and some events have been postponed, we are still looking forward to the upcoming quiz night, now to be held in September.
The committee is excited to have Sharron McRoberts on board. Sharron has been co-opted on as a committee member until the next AGM. Carpark Lights - Funds were raised during the quiz night last year and new LED lights have been installed in the carpark. Solar Panel Quote - The committee has received a quote on installing Solar Panels at the hall. These panels will allow us to become a Civil Defence Hub. The panels will be discussed further at the next meeting, once all committee members have had a chance to look over the quote. Use of Funds - A decision was made by the committee to hold two years estimated expenses/costs in case of disaster. Monthly Newsletter - A newsletter will now be sent out to everyone on our mailing list, updating them on upcoming events and projects, as well as access to these minutes. Upcoming events - Quiz Night - NEW DATE - Saturday 25th September, “Through the Decades” theme, teams of up to 8 people (don’t be shy if you don’t have a team come along and we will make some teams up), $80 per team, bring your own nibble and drink. Prizes for best dressed, spot prizes, auction items as well as a fun evening to be had. Further details will come out shortly. All other events for August are currently on hold due to COVID-19. |
